Rex Regnat

Rex Regnat is a game set on the eve of the historical annihilation of the Polish/Lithuanian Commonwealth for 2 or 4 players in 60 minutes. Players represent four political factions, each with a different vision for the future, who have gathered to write a new constitution for the Commonwealth, the details of which are determined over a series of debates, resolved using a a modified trick-taking system in which every card matters.

It is the final decade of the 1700’s, and the Polish/Lithuanian Commonwealth is no longer the great power she once was. Absolutist regimes have beaten her in a succession of wars, and the wealth she once enjoyed is now a distant memory. The Commonwealth must change, and that means a written constitution, in the modern style, to chart her new direction and lead her into the future. However, not everyone agrees about the course of the ship of state, and so four factions have gathered together to debate her future and ensure that their own vision comes to pass.

Players take the roles of these four political factions, negotiating a new constitution for the state using a modified trick-taking system in which every card matters. Each faction, from the moderate reformers to the absolutest reactionaries, has their own goals for the constitution. But some factions share desired policies, making for an interesting blend of selfishness and cooperation.
